More than this, fan predictions for what the game will have in store have run wild since the drop of the trailer.
With Pokémon Legends: Arceus released earlier this year, Nintendo has a lot to live up to in regards to player expectations. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet might be a follow-up to this, but they are keeping to the style that Arceus popularized. What makes them different from the aforementioned Arceus? Let’s dive into what you need to know!
Starter Pokémon
Three new starter Pokémon were revealed for the game. Sprigatito is the cute grass-type, Fuecoco is the adorable fire-type, & Quaxly is the cool water-type. The trailer highlights their individual personalities as well. Sprigatito frolics in some flowers, Quaxly flips his large hairstyle in a fountain, and Fuecoco celebrates a peach they found.
This information will help players form a quick connection with one over the others. Many people have already decided on their starter as well.
The trailer did not indicate what their evolution lines look like. Thus, fans are already predicting their forms on TikTok, fan pages, and obviously YouTube. The general consensus is that they will be dual-types and will keep each Pokémon’s signature physical attribute. Quaxly’s eccentric hair is a recurring theme.
However, there is little agreement on what their second types will be.
Fans also speculate on the region and cultures the starter Pokémon are based on. Sprigatito is a grass- type and looks like a wild cat. “Sprig” may reference the grass-type element and “gatito” means “kitten” in Spanish. This led many fans to believe Spain or Portugal is a source of inspiration.
Fuecoco and Quaxly’s names also reference Spain and Portugal. This depends on the lens you view them through. Central and South America are also viable options. As you can see, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet already have fans going wild with theories. This can be good and bad.
Good: because fans are talking.
Bad: if they get themselves hyped up for something that was never planned by the developers.
Other New Pokémon

All three of them fit in well with the new location for this game. It appears to take place on an island or in an ocean-side town. Lechonk is by far the fan-favorite of the new Gen-9 Pokémon. TikTok videos dedicated to him have sung his praises, and the most popular video received 197,000 likes so far.
Lechonk is just a hog, but his name holds much more meaning. “Lechon” means “piglet” in Spanish. However, fans also quickly noted that “le” and “chonk” are both popular Internet terms. His name also supports fan theories about this game being inspired by Spanish culture.
Legendary Reveal

Their names and designs suggest that these two represent the past and future. In Japanese, “Korai” roughly translates to ancient and “Mirai” translates to “future.” Koraidon exhibits raw strength and power while Miraidon represents technology and sleek futurism.
These two ideas compliment and oppose each other, which is a common theme in the Pokémon universe.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is a multiplayer game, just like the iconic Gen-5 Pokémon Black and White, among others. The two games go hand in hand, just as the Legendaries do. Since we already know which Legendary correlates with which game, players have the choice of which one to pursue.
Plus, friends can strategize and play side by side to trade and progress together.
Nintendo’s Player Base

Some say the designs of the Pokémon have become too childlike in comparison to previous games. Meanwhile, others completely disagree and believe they are constantly modernizing.
Despite this internal argument, fans are more than excited to play Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. People seem especially pleased with Lechonk and the Legendary Pokémon. There is also a discussion about the designs for the humans in the game. The fans agree that these designs are up to date and represent the ideas of the player base well.
Until November

Sadly, the game won’t be out for a while. Which only makes fan theories grow. Fans obviously see a lot of promise in this game through the new Pokémon, and expectations are high. Connections to starters are already being made, and players are massively excited for November 18, 2022 when the game launches on the Nintendo Switch. We’ll have to wait and see which fan theories actually became a reality then.
