After three hit shows on Disney+, the MCU continues its live-action series on the small screen. Recently, Disney posted a new trailer for Hawkeye with never-before-seen clips. In time for the holidays, Clint Barton and Kate Bishop team up to fight an unknown threat.
Jeremy Renner returns as the sharpshooting hero for which the series is named. His last appearance was in Avengers: Endgame, yet our favorite guy with a bow & arrow did not just disappear. In Hawkeye, Barton must confront his family and his complicated past as Ronin. In an effort to move beyond his past, he decides to bring his wife and three kids to New York City on vacation.
However, he soon hears of a masked vigilante using a bow-and-arrow that is naturally mistaken for Ronin, so Barton stays behind.
For over ten years, Renner played the character of Hawkeye. Now, he’s joined by Hailee Steinfeld. She will be playing Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old skilled marksman on a mission all her own. Steinfeld has starring roles in Dickinson, Bumblebee, and Pitch Perfect. Proving she could be a legit star in this role.
Due to Renner’s outside problems, as well as the need to add in new heroes, many fans have speculated that Steinfeld will take over the Hawkeye mantle as “Bishop.” This could just exist in the Disney+ universe of shows but could also happen on the big screen too.
Who Is Kate Bishop?
Bishop was introduced in the Young Avengers in 2005. Written by Allan Heinberg, Bishop is one of the founding members of the Young Avengers. She has a thorny past but is full of wit and attitude. In the story, she takes the Hawkeye name while Barton is missing. However, executive producer, Trinh Tran shares that the series is inspired by the Hawkeye comic. Hawkeye, written by Matt Fraction and illustrated by David Aja, is based on a popular comic run among Marvel fans.
That story takes place in NYC after Bishop leaves the Young Avengers. She decides to join Barton on a mission for S.H.I.E.L.D. Similar to Barton, Bishop has no supernatural abilities. Instead, she hones her skills in archery and combat. She looks up to Barton and hopes to become a hero like him someday.
Kate and Barton develop a mentor/mentee-like relationship within the story. Yet the two would later become partners. It seems that Disney is wanting to focus on a much younger version of Kate Bishop in the show (though Kate has always been younger than Barton in the comics). However, they likely could still develop the partnership too.
Steinfeld worked tirelessly on her archery skills to prepare for the role. Apparently, in the series, Bishop finds herself in a very fun, crazy, possibly life-threatening situation, where she is face-to-face with her hero. Due to the nature of Barton and Bishop’s relationship, the series conveys a more humorous tone too.
The two are known for this in the comics, so it is good to see that coming forth on the big screen too.

The six-episode series takes place during the Christmas season. First, the trailer opens with a scene that includes Bishop and her mom Eleanor, played by Vera Farmiga and Barton. Bishop tells her mother that they’re partners and Barton replies with: “that’s kind of a stretch.”
Next, Bishop and Barton get into countless shenanigans. They use trick arrows, fight bad guys, and attend a renaissance fair. Based on previews for past series, the trailer shows only a snippet of what we’ll see in Hawkeye. For fans of the Fraction and Aja comic, there’s a cameo from Lucky the Pizza Dog. Renner comments that “we used the comics a lot as the basis for the look and format of the show.”
Oh yeah, and they blow up a car with a trick arrow. We shouldn’t forget about that.
What Else Do We Know About The Series?
Additionally, Yelena Belova, who appeared in Black Widow as Natasha Romanoff’s adoptive sister, is set to star in the series. In the post-credit scene for Black Widow, the reason for Belova’s appearance is hinted at. Fans praised Pugh’s performance in the film as charismatic and entertaining. Will Belova forgive Barton for letting Romanoff sacrifice herself? Despite that, fans are excited to see the dynamic between the three characters.
Furthermore, fans theorized that Marvel wants to set up the Young Avengers. Hawkeye is a step towards that with Bishop’s character. Thus far, from Wandavision, there’s Tommy and Billy. In the comics, their hero names are Wiccan and Speed (though they are not technically “real” due to Wanda’s world coming to an end at her own call. From Falcon and the Winter Soldier, there’s Eli Bradley, AKA Patriot.
Cassie Lang and Kid Loki have also made appearances in Antman and Loki. Ms. Marvel premieres with her series next year. Lastly, Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in 2022 introduces America Chavez. Not to mention the others that could appear within the multiverse content over the next few years.
Therefore, this could be something we see in the next few years. That could be hinted at further in this series.
When Does ‘Hawkeye’ Take Place In The MCU Timeline?
Hawkeye takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame in 2023. This means that the show happened before Spider-Man: Far From Home in the spring/summer of 2024. If we have to imagine the Avengers’ film ends in the Spring of 2023, the Hawkeye series takes place in the 2023 holiday season. Then the Spider-Man film would take place shortly after that.Keep in mind that the MCU takes place in the future, not the normal world’s present-day due to skipping five years into the future during End Game. Disney’s Hawkeye series is expected to drop on November 24th worldwide with the first two episodes of the series.
